Over the years, I found I had more casserole lids than I had casserole dishes. I found an excellent use for them besides filling in for the odd pot lid. The smaller lids work great for covering a bowl or a plate of food when microwaving. I especially like it for microwaving my leftover oatmeal. Comes out like it is freshly made, same with rice or potatoes.

Microwave Onion Cooker for Storing OnionsI found this adorable onion-shaped microwave onion-cooker. I decided to purchase it and use it to store onions, which were cut apart, in the refrigerator. This way, by using an onion cooker for storage, it also serves to cook onions too when I need them cooked.

Use Elastic Bands in the FreezerOpen boxes of partly used frozen foods can be a bit of a nuisance in the freezer. They become a difficult shape for storage as one end becomes flattened. Also food can fall out. Taking just one minute to fetch an elastic band and wrap it around the box to keep everything properly in place will save time and frustration later

Homemade Shake and BakeI make my own shake and bake base. It's easy. In a large jar, I add all my leftover bits of broken chips, pretzels, bread crumbs and cereal crumbs when the cereal container is empty. Each time I add to my crumb jar, I give it a shake so all the crumbs are mixed. Right before I use it, I take some out, put it into a ziplock bag, and use the rolling pin on it to make the crumbs smaller if needed. When I need a coating for chicken, pork chops or to add to meatloaf, I use from this jar.

Once the tub was emptied, I had a bright idea that it could store a sandwich instead of using a baggie. Separating Egg Whites from the YolkMy recipe for Angel Food Cake calls for 12 egg whites which takes a dozen or more eggs for me, depending on how many yolks I break. After breaking a yolk on the sharp edge of an egg shell, I found it easier to pour the yolk in my hand and let the remainder of the white slip through my fingers.
