Basic Fried Dill Pickles

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornmeal mix
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups dill pickle chips

Directions

In a deep fryer, heat oil to 360 degrees F. In a shallow bowl, stir together cornmeal mix, flour and pepper. In another bowl, combine egg and milk. Dip dill chips in milk mixture and roll in cornmeal mixture. Fry pickles in batches for about 3 minutes per batch until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. These are good served with a platter of raw vegetables and ranch dressing.

Could you use real pickles rather than dill pickle flavored potato chips? I've had deep fried pickles once and they are delicious. Thanks

Editor's Note: I believe that the recipe is using dill pickle "chips" that you put on hamburgers, the wavy cut slices that come in a jar near the whole pickles. (03/01/2007)
