Bathroom Paint Color Advice?

My mom and I are moving into a new house and the bathroom was renovated before we had a say in anything. They put in a bright 80s reject purple counter top big enough for a double sink. They haven't painted the walls yet so I was wondering what colors would look good and not clash with the tacky counter?

I would go with a light gray. This is a neutral and more modern color. It is easy to find a towels and bath mats in gray.

We had our house redone after a fire and the contractors put dark purple tiles on the lower half of the walls in my bathroom, then painted the walls bright purple! I couldn't afford to rip off and replace the tiles, so I bought a semi gloss pale blue grey latex paint. Looks good and tones down the purple.
