Here in the east there has been a rash of robberies, by breaking into people's homes. The thieves go through open windows. You can buy a window lock, that allows you to open the window, and lock it in that position.

Put Alarm Sticker in Your Window
If you don't have a house alarm, you can always put an alarm system sticker in your window anyways! It may help deter burglars. Also, a car alarm can be used, if you can sleep with your car alarm remote with you.

Use Caution After a Natural Disaster
Who would have known that the tornado going over a house might cause the water to be pushed out of the toilet and onto the floor of the bathroom (our safe room) where we went to hide from the dangerous winds and pressure.

Photograph Your Belongings for Insurance Purposes
When contemplating your homeowners or renters insurance, consider this idea to speed things along. Use your digital camera and take pictures of all four walls in each room, close ups of opened drawers and closets, bathroom cabinets, garage contents opened tool boxes, etc.

Safety Tip: Keep Glass Paper Weights Out of the Sun
Do not put paper weights or snow globes where the sun can reflect off of them. When sun reflects off the paperweight, they become very hot (like a magnifying glass), and they can become hot enough to start a fire.

Key Locks Differently
I used to want to have all of my door locks to be keyed the same. However I have recently realized, that there are times when I'd like to be able to allow someone into my house, when I am away on vacation for example, or to check on my pets.

They did a segment on TV the other day about how thieves are stealing cars with GPS's. Not only do they have your car but they can program your GPS to take them to right to your home.
