Save Old Baby Food Jars and Lids
Baby food jars have many uses. I saved the ones I used from my son and have used them for a variety of things. I made his food, so I would make little "to go" meals for him and put them in the freezer for when we traveled.
In the past, I've used zip closed bags to store things like powdered sugar, dry pasta, or bread crumbs, but it recently occurred to me that I have accumulated several (various sized) metal tins that are sitting empty in my pantry.
Re-use metal coffee cans and lids. My grandfather used coffee cans to store nails, bolts, small screw drivers, and other tools. The cans kept the moisture out and kept things organized. They can also be used to store small containers of oil, etc. and sandpaper.
Reusing Plastic Laundry Detergent Bottles
To organize cleaning tools, gardening tools, and small household tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.), clean out an old plastic laundry detergent bottle.

I save the lids from the tops of Pringles chips cans and the tops from the Walmart generic Crystal Light mix. They are perfect for setting cans of shaving cream on in the shower.
Uses for Newspaper Plastic Bags
If you get a daily newspaper delivered to you in long, narrow plastic bags, you can recycle them in a number of ways. They are great for holding shoes when traveling, so that the clothing in your suitcase doesn't get dirty.
Get free paint card samples from the hardware store or Wal-Mart to use for card making or scrapbook embellishments and crafts. The discarded sample cards for kitchen cupboards make good stiff bookmark materials that can be covered with your choice of medium.
Make Quilt From Old Sweatshirts
Sweatshirts can be recycled to make good quilts. They are warm enough that just a backing rather than adding batting may be sufficiently warm if a lightweight quilt is desired. I often alternate sweatshirt materials with jean material.
