I have around $80,000 of unpaid student loans, in default. Can I be sent to jail for not paying this amount? How many years in jail for such action? I made some payments, but due to life difficulties I didn't make any more. Are there any other options to repay these loans?
Are there any financial institutions or private lenders that can help pay off high interest student loans? My daughter borrowed just over 20K and it will take 15 years to pay off for a total of nearly 80K!
What do you do when nobody will give you a student loan without a co-signer. I live on disability and am trying to go back to school. I need a loan to pay for out of pocket expenses.
I recently purchased a business (last August 06) and had emergency surgery in November. I had complications until February of this year. In April, I was contacted by a collection agency regarding a defaulted student loan that i took out in 1980s. It was the first I had heard of it... time has a way of veiling such things.
My daughter is now a senior in high school. She has a 4.0 plus average (honors, AP classes) and has a 75% tuition scholarship so far and will be probably be able to attend the closest university for free if she continues to apply for scholarships. At 75% paid, I can make up the difference if necessary.
My husband is the co-signer of his daughter's student loan. He's been paying on it for years because she refuses to. She is not in school any more, nor did she graduate. The problem is that my husband got laid off due to downsizing at his job. He still has been paying for it with his unemployment checks, but now he no longer receives unemployment checks. He is now unable to work because of an illness that has progressed in the past year. His daughter does have a steady job.
I have 2 companies claiming to have consolidated the same student loans. Both want payment starting in July. Upon contact both say to contact the other company and tell the they do not own the loan. How do I fix this?
I deal with debt elimination in my line of business and I am amazed at the student loan debt that people are accumulating. Don't fall into this trap. I tried to help a young lady and it was too late. She had a Master's Degree and that couldn't even help her!
