Buy and Freeze Bread in Bulk

A loaf of bread in the freezer. When our household purchases bread (usually wholesale from Costco), it's just too much for our family to finish within the week, before the bread goes bad!

Immediately after purchasing, we will set aside the bread that we know we won't finish and place it in the freezer. You can use the ziplock freezer bags if you have that or, two plastic bags and seal tight!

Once you finish your bread, and need the one from the fridge - you could let it thaw at room temperature usually within a few hours and the bread is new like you just bought it! No freezer burns or mold!

This is a good tip. I've been doing this for a long time. My local grocer sell French bread for 2 dollars a loaf. It has a strong taste of soybean oil. Walmart, which is a lot farther away, sells a loaf of French bread for a dollar, and all I can taste is a bit of yeast. So, when I go to Walmart, I buy at least 10 loaves and freeze them.

When I thaw the bread it tastes just like fresh. If those with a more discerning palate can tell a difference, I suggest they toast the bread.

Wow! That is great you are able to stock up at Walmart! Even though it is further away you buy 10 loaves and freeze them then you're stocked up!

I would do this with the Costco mini loaves, from their bakery. They would come in packages of 5. Each loaf was just enough bread for my family at dinnertime. I would wrap the extra loaves in plastic wrap and then in a gallon ziplock and pop them into the freezer. After thawing and reheating, the bread tasted as fresh as the first loaf.

I store my sliced sandwich bread in the refrigerator. My teenage sons make sure that it never lasts too long.

Oh yes! Those mini loaves are good too, but we don't eat them all in one setting so we have to freeze them!

Excellent reminder. Thanks, and one which also works when baking bread.

Oh yes! I have never made bread before, but that will work too!

The absolute best way to freeze bread...put your loaf in a brown paper bag close the end up either with tape or a clothes pin. Your bread will never freezer burn, the bags are reusable! Been doing this for years!

I don't have any brown paper bags! But glad that works too! Thank you for sharing with us!
