This is a great cold weather meal that is very hearty and filling.

Total Time: 110 minutes

Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 can lima beans ($.99)
  • 1 can pork & beans ($1.19)
  • 1 can kidney beans ($.99)
  • 1 lb hamburger ($3.00)
  • 1 onion, minced ($.49)
  • 1 lb bacon ($3.40)
  • 1 cup ketchup ($.40)
  • 1 cup brown sugar ($pennies)
  • 4 Tbsp vinegar ($pennies)
  • 4 tsp Worcestershire sauce ($pennies)

Steps:

  1. Brown and crumble bacon.
  2. Ad
  3. Cook onions and hamburger until done. Add beans.
  4. Mix all ingredients for sauce and pour over top of bean mixture.
  5. May be made in crock pot on high. Leave all day while you are working or bake 1 1/2 hours at 350.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can pork and beans
  • 1 can lima beans
  • 1 can kidney beans
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 cup bacon, crumbled
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp. mustard
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion

Directions:

Drain 1/2 of the liquid off the lima and kidney beans. Place all three types of beans in a baking dish. In a skillet brown the hamburger and bacon. Drain the grease. Add the ketchup, mustard, brown sugar and chopped onion. Add this mixture to the bean mixture in baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30-45 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2-1lb. hamburger
  • 3/4 lb. bacon
  • 2 cans pork and beans (15oz. size)
  • 1 can red kidney beans, drained
  • 1 can lima beans, drained
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. white vinegar
  • 1 tsp. liquid smoke

Directions:

Brown hamburger and onion and drain fat. Brown bacon and drain fat. Mix with beans, ketchup, sugar, vinegar and liquid smoke. Bake in crock pot 4-9 hours starting on high to cook the shortest amount of time and low if taking longer to cook.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices bacon
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 can green beans (1 lb.), drained
  • 1 can kidney beans (1 lb.), drained
  • 1 can butter beans (1 lb.),drained

  • 1 can lima beans (1 lb.), drained
  • 1 can pork and beans (1 lb.)
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1/2 tsp. dry mustard

Directions

Place bacon in 3 qt. microwave dish. Microwave for 4-5 minutes or until crisp. Remove bacon and add onion. Saute' onion in bacon drippings for 3 minutes. Combine remaining ingredients with onion, mixing lightly. Microwave covered, at half power for 1/2 hour, stirring after 15 minutes. Let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving. Crumble bacon over top.

Cook onion and garlic in 1 Tbsp. shortening until tender. Add balance of ingredients and mix. Turn into 1 1/2 qt. casserole.

More than baked beans -- A meal in itself!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 lb. bacon
  • 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • Pepper to taste
  • #2 can* of Pork and Beans
  • #2 can* of red kidney beans
  • #2 can* of cut green beans
  • #2 can* of green beans

*A #2 can is an old system of numbering and would have equaled 18 to 20 oz.

Directions:

In a skillet, brown 1/2 lb. bacon, 1/2 lb. ground beef, and 1 cup chopped onions. Drain off grease.

Mix together the remaining ingredients (except for beans).


Drain juice off each of the #2 size cans of beans and mix all ingredients together.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes, or in crock pot 6-8 hours on low.

6-8 Hours Cooking Time

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. bacon
  • 1 large onion
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tsp. mustard
  • 4 tsp. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 can (30 oz.) pork and beans
  • 1 can garbanzo beans (15 oz.), drained
  • 1 can red kidney beans, drained
  • 1 can lima or butter beans, drained

Directions:

Cook first 3 ingredients in large skillet until meat loses its color and onions are tender; drain off excess fat. Stir in next 5 ingredients. Combine last ingredients in 3 qt. casserole dish. Stir meat mixture into beans. Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes. You can garnish with strips of crisp bacon. You can also use different combinations of beans, if you like.

Ingredients

  • 1 can pinto beans
  • 1 can lima beans
  • 1 can kidney beans (wash above and drain)
  • 1 can butter beans (use liquid)
  • 2 cans pork and beans (use liquid)
  • 1/2 lb. hamburger
  • 1/2 lb. diced bacon
  • 1 medium chopped onion (brown and drain off fat)
Sauce:
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 tsp. salt (opt.)
Mix all together and bake uncovered at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes.

  • 1 can lima beans
  • 1 can green beans
  • 1 can pork and beans
