Check Freecycle Before You Buy

One of my new favorite things I am getting into is my local freecycle group. I love it. I have gotten rid of stuff that has cluttered up my small apt. But the best thing is the stuff I have gotten. My favorite is my chair. Its great, before you go out and buy something, ask. Someone may have one that they won't even think about until you ask for it.

I decided I would like a wok. I was pricing them and then decided, well, I will check with freecycle first. I got offered one the same day. And it was electric, bonus. I had to drive a little ways for the griddle I wanted but was much cheaper than buying one and she gave me a few other items that turned out to be really nice and good quality stuff. You should really join your local freecycle group. You will be pleasantly surprised, I guarantee it.

Check Freecycle Before You Buy

I joined Freecycle months ago but haven't offered or taken anything yet. It seems like a very good way of getting rid of things and finding things you want. The only thing I noticed was some people asking for too much or things that to me were expensive and rather nervy of them to ask for it free. One person who didn't give any explanation why just said her son's clothes were getting too small and could someone please donate him a new wardrobe.

Another one was asking for an expensive piece of exercise equipment. I wonder too about people asking for items or offering to take things, just to turn around and list on ebay! (08/25/2006)

Check Freecycle Before You Buy

Freecycle is great. I have offered quite a bit, and have received a few items. It is a great way to get rid of stuff that someone else could possibly use. I too, have noticed A LOT of posts for things I would NEVER ask for, but like my husband says, what does it hurt to ask. Though I too, cannot believe the nerve of some people! LOL (08/25/2006)

Amen for Freecycle! I cannot say enough about freecycle, not just on the receiving end, but giving and making new friends. There are a few "nuts" in the crowd, but if you are careful, you will be safe and make a difference for the planet. The idea is to keep the dumps down to a manageable pile: reclaim-remake-reuse!

Debbie52. This is a place to ask for what you want. It may be an entire wardrobe or it might be a uniform or a wok, regardless the idea is to give and to get and to keep things out of the local landfill. I have seen clothes, good useful housewares, furniture and many other items like tools thrown in our local landfill. If someone asks they have a reason. I am sure there are no rules that state you must give a reason. I would think that just asking would show the need. I myself need size 8 and 10 boys pants and jeans. I see no reason to not ask. If a person has some boys clothes they are no longer going to use and are going to dispose of them anyway, I would be more than willing to pay for the shipping. You seem to be very judgmental of the people's requests rather than getting with the idea of Freecycle's point. Try to "Judge not" . Enjoy and use the site for what it was intended. And allow the members to lighten the load in our landfills.
