Cherries in the Snow

  • 6 egg whites
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 12 saltine crackers, crushed
  • 2 cups whipped topping
  • 1 21-ounce can cherry pie filling

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Beat egg whites in mixer bowl until soft peaks form. Add cream of tartar. Add sugar gradually, beating until stiff peaks form. Fold in walnuts and cracker crumbs. Place in greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Bake for 20 minutes. This will rise high and then fall when removed from oven. Cool. Spread whipped topping over baked layer. Drop pie filling over whipped topping like cherries falling in the snow. Cut into servings.
