Christmas Gift for My Boyfriend

I have no idea what to get my boyfriend for Christmas. We've been together for almost a year now and he's been like my best friend for two. I'm 18 and he's 19.

He hasn't said anything that he specifically wants and I want to give him something good that he'll have for a long time. Please help.

You just need to think about what he does and what he likes and go from there. Without knowing him it is difficult to make suggestions, but I think the best gift you can give are memories. Give him tickets to something the two of you can do together. It doesn't have to be on his birthday either. That's why I mentioned tickets as the gift.

And it may not be something you get tickets for; my ex-wife used to love going to a batting cage on her birthday. One year I gave her a home made ticket for the cages and a roll of quarters for her birthday. She loved it. I think it was the last thing I gave her she liked other than the divorce papers. Most people will "tell" you what they want, even if they don't come right out and say it. Have you noticed him lingering longingly over a certain item in a shopping catalog, or while out window-shopping? There's a clue. Does he adore chocolate, but tends not to buy for himself? Maybe a small box of dark chocolate (good for the heart) samplers. What's his favorite color, favorite team, favorite activity? Pay attention to these small details and you can make the gift, whatever its price, personal and loving.

And if you're too broke to pay attention. You might try what I did my first year married: make a coupon book for favors and services. Breakfast in bed (worked for us because we lived together), a day's chores done on his behalf by you (might work for you), things he'd enjoy that are free.

My boyfriend has a debit card for his parents account and has no spending limit, so he just buys whatever he wants whenever he wants. He also buys me very nice gifts, which makes it even harder. For his birthday I just got him a sterling silver bracelet that had 062908 engraved on it which is June 29, 2008, our anniversary. It's subtle and meaningful. He loved it. (12/07/2009)
