Cleaning Crayon Out of a Dryer

Okay I've just experienced the crayon in the dryer and tried a few of the ones mentioned, but I remembered we just brought a product called Spray Nine. It is for cleaning marina items (environmentally friendly) and does a great job. Well, it did one heck of job cleaning the inside of dryer without having to worry about the enamel being ruined or anything else. Terrific :) Remove all the crayon and even marks that were there from something else.

We've joined the ranks as well however the one who left crayons in their pockets was my 20 year old son. Uses them at work for marking when loading packages on trucks. Anyway, something that works better and a whole lot quicker. A product called De Solv It. This is a citrus based product.

For light spots, simply spray a small amount on a paper towel and apply to spot. A light amount of rubbing eliminates the spot.

For heavier areas, spray a small amount directly on the location, let sit for a minute or two then rub with a paper towel.

The spot will come up almost immediately.

Many years ago I was a contract manager for a custodial firm. We used citrus based solvents for many of the jobs that were heavy on industrial based grease. Crayons are a grease based product.

This just happened to me literally an hour ago! Opened my dryer & found purple everywhere!! thought it was paint, there was so much of it. Found the culprit in the form of a purple crayon :( Jumped on google & found this website. Loads of helpful information. I read the bit about using comet on a sponge, so I took some of that but at the last minute grabbed some Clorox wipes too.

I ran my dryer for about 10 min. & then used the Clorox wipes to swipe it clean in no time. Seriously took about 10 minutes total! I am currently running an old white towel through to make sure it's all good before I put clothes in. Thanks for all the great help everyone!

WD-40 did not work for me! But Comet/Ajax on a wet sponge did the trick in just a few minutes! Thanks!

I was over my sister's house when she discovered blue and red crayon stains all over a load of laundry and inside the drum of her brand new dryer! I quickly found these posts and we tried the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It worked, but with a lot of elbow grease. I went up to store and found a cheap product called Goof Off Miracle Remover.

I picked it up because it listed crayon stains on the label. It was amazing! It came off the dryer drum and all of the clothes! Thank goodness for posts like these. Who would have known there were so many solutions?

If you're blessed to have a Market Basket or Ace nearby run and get some Lestoil, it's made by Clorox. This stuff works amazing! I ran the dryer to soften the industrial crayon my hubby uses at work, put this on a rag full strength and wiped away, it took all of 10 minutes. I also use this on permanent marker, wipes right up!

It has a very potent smell as most degreasers do, but works wonderfully on floors and all purpose cleaning, and when using it for this purpose a little goes a long way and smells pleasant in moderation.

Yesterday, I found a load of whites covered in purple crayon polka dots. Apparently, a small piece of purple crayon was the culprit. After reading the solutions on this site, I found that the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser worked somewhat but it required a lot of elbow grease. So, when I read that some had used Comet (which I didn't have on hand) I figured that Soft Scrub with Bleach might work and it did!

I just put a little on a wet sponge and it worked great. My dryer drum is now the cleanest thing in my entire house!
Now, onto the clothes. I'm going to try the recipe of OxyClean/vinegar, etc. and see how that works.
