Cleaning Fiberglass Tubs and Showers

What is good for cleaning fiber glass tubs and walls? I have never had fiber glass before and not sure what to use.

I tried everything with no success until I tried Borax. Just dampen a plastic scrubber or scrubbing sponge of any kind and dip into Borax. Even the worst soap scum is easily removed! (05/13/2008)

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! The oven cleaner followed by Mr Clean Magic Eraser worked on the worst soap scum ever! (06/11/2008)

I used Lindsay's advice posted 10/25/2006 with the fume free oven cleaner and the Mr. Clean eraser pads, and I can't believe it's the same shower base. I bought both Mr. Clean eraser pads and the original eraser pads lasted longer than the supposed new and improved. It didn't get out the hair dye color but everything else is pretty perfect. My husband is a clean freak and was totally impressed. If anyone knows the trick to getting out the hair dye please let me know. Right now I am trying paper towels drenched in isopropyl alcohol on the stain. Wish me luck!

Will using oven cleaner on fiberglass showers hurt the shower drain, faucets, or the chrome around the shower door?

Once you get it clean you can keep it clean with a good quality car / boat wash. I use Turtle wax zip wash, but any that is designed for Fiberglass boat or Vipers and Corvettes will work. (10/06/2008)

I don't know why this works, but I wet the tub and rub Irish Spring soap over it, let it soak and then use a brush to wash it off. I started this when I noticed a clean streak from the soap dripping into the tub. What I like is no fumes. (10/13/2008)

I have well water that is rich in iron & sulfur, and the water has stained the entire tub with a black color. I've tried MANY things to remove this color, but to no avail. I don't want to replace the tub, but does anyone have anything that will work on removing iron & sulfur stains from a fiberglass tub? (11/18/2008)

I just tried the oven cleaner in my 24 yr. old fiberglass shower & tub. To my surprise it really worked. I have tried everything. A lot of things would work but took a lot of elbow grease. This was the fastest and cleanest my shower has ever been. THANK YOU for the tip. Now I can us the boat wax. I have tried the boat wax before. It does work, only problem is that when the shower needs to be cleaned again you have to scrub off the old wax again.

I work a lot of home shows and trade shows, and one thing I have seen over and over lately and heard great things from their customers is Scum Off shower cleaner. I saw this guys demo on a glass shower door and couldn't believe how easy it cleaned it. I didn't believe it at first until people that bought it the first day came back raving days later. One lady in the booth next to him said she hadn't been able to clean her fiberglass shower for years and the Scum Off took it right off.

I tried it on my tile shower and it really did work. Best of all it is completely eco safe. It cost like $10 a bottle, but it dilutes down to $0.20 cents a quart to make a daily shower spray and glass cleaner. You can get it at www.scumoff.com, it's completely guaranteed too. (05/19/2009)
