Cleaning a Coach Purse

I got a big Coach purse from my cousin. It is mostly white and it's starting to look tan. I want to clean it, to make the white more white. On the inside it is silk, but on the outside it is a couple of different designs. There is the kind that looks like it is woven or sewn with all the C's and it's like that almost hard fabric. I was going to throw it in the wash, but are there any other things I could do?
