To stop a run in her stockings, my mother used to use clear nail polish on the run.

I used nail glue on mine. It's just a little stronger than the nail polish, plus it dries quicker. Be careful though because it makes the material kindof hard, so use a very small amount. After that I used one thread only to sew it together. It turned out pretty neat!
Me too!! I always did that and would have clear polish on my leg, and OUCHIES....did that burn! I don't wear stockings/hose any more, but this took me right back to those days when we extended the life of everything any way we could!
