Collecting Social Security Survivor's Benefits?

My children's father disappeared over ten years ago. We recently learned he died about 10 years ago. Are they entitled to collect their missed Social Security now?

Probably not but your local Social Security office is the only place to receive reliable information. Just be sure to go in person (no real answers can be gotten over the telephone) and be sure to take all your information with you. You can find out what papers you will need over the telephone, so you may not have to make more than one trip.

Check with your local social security office. Be sure you bring birth certificates, etc to show how the kids are related. Good luck!
