College Graduation Party Ideas

My wonderful son is graduating from college in May with a major in chemistry. I'm puzzled as to how to prepare if I have a party at home. What if the weather is bad and all these people cannot fit into our home? What is the main solution about dealing with kids (they're all over 21) who drink and then need to drive? For those of you who have experience with this, is it just better to rent a hall? Any theme ideas?

You may want to consider having an open house party announcing "Open house noon to six. Please drop by!", or some such thing. We have a small home and could not accommodate more than six guests at a time and do an open house every Thanksgiving from 7am til 3pm. We have our actual dinner with family and invited guests around 5pm, but still get to share company with all of our friends during the day.

Centerpieces: you could fill beakers and test-tubes with flowers! Test tube: fashion a holder out of heavy craft wire, or take several and "plant" into a bowl or plant pot. Congratulations to you all! (03/17/2010)
