With some scrap yarn, I made this in about 2 hours. I think it turned out nice.

Supplies:
- size I hook (J for a bit larger item).
- 2 oz scrap yarn
- hot glue gun
- scissors
- darning needle
- 1 Dollar Tree oatmeal box
Steps:
- For the base of the lid, chain 2 and make 9 singles in the first chain. Join and chain 1. Make 2 in each stitch for 18. Join and chain 1.
- Increase each row by 9 till you have 5 rows. Your final row should be 45. Join and cut the tail long enough to sew it to the vertical piece you are about to make. Usually 16-20" will do. Set aside.
- Your colors now can either be the same as the base or a lighter/darker color. Chain the exact same number as the last row of your base. Making sure you don't twist, join and chain 2. Make 1 single in each for 2 rows.
- With your new color, join and chain 2. Make two half doubles in the next 2 stitches and then a 3 half double popcorn stitch. Do this by crocheting 3 half doubles, then taking your hook out of the last stitch, going back to the first one of the 3 and inserting the hook, then going into the back of the stitches, catching the front one and drawing them together. Catch the next stitch and put in 2 half doubles and repeat around. Join and break off this color and work in the tails.
- Join with the first color and make four more rows of singles. Break off and work in tail. Your work should be about 2.25" high. Slide it over the oatmeal box and measure/cut the box to fit. Make the cut slightly shorter than the crocheted work but not by much. Glue the crochet work to the box.
- Make a lid the same size as the inside of the lid, but in another color. Then, border it with a half double down inside the circle and join around with a long tail. Cut the oatmeal lid and glue to the crocheted lid and sew them together. Using a whip stitch, sew a "hinge" of 4-5 stitches for the lid to come up and down.
- For the flower: Chain 2 and make 9 doubles. Join. For the petals, chain 3 and make a half double in the 1st stitch, then a double in the same stitch. I think this makes the petal a bit pointy and nicer. Skip a stitch and slip stitch in the 2nd stitch. Repeat 4 more times, break off the tie the tails together. For the center, chain 2 and make 6 in the first stitch and then join. This gives you a very tight little center. Glue them onto the top.
- I had three colors and made 2 of each for the "koasters". They should be the same pattern as the first one, but a bit smaller. This is where the smaller hook comes in. They should fit in your box and once you have those done, you are golden! N-JOY!
- Note: You can find coasters that might fit at the dollar store, too.
