This is my mother's recipe and her mother's before her. It is easy to make, and the crumb mixture on top instead of icing makes for a nice change.

Mix the first three ingredients into crumbs. Take out 1 cup of crumbs and set aside. To remaining crumbs add sour milk, beaten egg, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Stir in the raisins. Put batter in a greased and floured 9 inch square cake pan. Sprinkle top of the cake with the cup of crumbs that you set aside.

Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees F) for about 40 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup melted butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
Filling:
  • 1 can pumpkin (29 oz.)
  • 2 eggs
  • Ad

  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
Topping:
  • 1 cup reserved cake mix
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Directions

Measure 1 cup of cake mix, set aside for topping. Combine the remaining cake mix, melted butter and eggs. Press mixture into greased 9 x 13-inch baking pan (press hard). Combine the above and pour over cake mixture in pan. Combine all ingredients for crumb topping. Sprinkle over filling. Bake 45 to 50 minutes at 350 degrees F. Serve with Cool Whip.

Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 3 cups pumpkin
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 2 cups evaporated milk
  • Ad

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 stick butter or margarine
  • Walnuts, chopped (opt.)

Directions

Thoroughly mix eggs, pumpkin, sugar, spices and milk together. Combine cake mix and butter. Cut in like for pie crust. Add nuts, if desired. Pour pumpkin mixture into 9x13 inch pan. Sprinkle cake mix evenly. Bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour. Serve with dollop of whipped cream.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour + 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 stick margarine or butter
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 egg (slightly beaten)

Directions:

Blend together until finely mixed: 2 cup all purpose flour, 2 cup brown sugar, and stick of margarine. Reserve 3/4 cup crumb mixture for topping. Add balance of flour mixed with soda, salt, and cinnamon. Add buttermilk, vanilla, and egg; do not over mix. Place in buttered 9x13 inch pan, and sprinkle on topping. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Anyone have a recipe for pizza style crumb cake? Hummel's bakery on Long Island, NY that makes this crumb pizza and it is absolutely delicious. I can't figure out what they use for the pie dough. It is kind of moist, almost tastes like some almond paste was used. Then, of course, it is topped with tons of crumbs.
