Dog Poop Bag Dispenser

Gold Post Medal for All Time! 899 Posts

Dog Poop Bag DispenserWe recently bought a package of dog poop bags with a dispenser. The dispenser broke almost immediately, leaving us with a bunch of bag rolls without a way to carry them with us. I designed this easy to make fabric pouch that clips to our leash.

Steps:

  1. Print template and cut out. (The template measures 7.5 inches by 6.5 inches with .25 inch seam lines.) Pin template to fabric and cut out twice.
  2. cut out two pieces 1

  3. Pin the two pieces right sides together. Sew all 4 sides, leaving an opening, approx. 2" wide, on one of the long sides for turning. Tie off threads, snip corners, and turn.
  4. sew sides

    leave opening to turn

    snip corners

    turn right side out 1

  5. Press with an iron. Turn edges of opening in, pin in place, and top stitch shut. Tie off threads and snip off ends.
  6. press all seams

    sew opening shut

  11. Pin around template marks to hold both fabric layers in place. Use small, sharp scissors to cut out circle for grommet. Remove pins.

  15. Cut a piece of ribbon 3" in length and use a lighter to melt the ends to prevent fraying.
  16. melt ends of ribbon

  17. Fold short sides of fabric inward 2", overlapping in the center. Pin in place. Fold ribbon in half and slip into one of the pinned ends, loop on the inside and a little hanging past the edge of the fabric.

    add snap 1

    add snap 2

If sewn according to the size of the pattern, it is really large for the size poop bags I have. I'm wondering if the bags come in different sizes. I accidentally made one 4x2.5" (measure twice cut once, not the opposite) and it holds a new roll of bags sized 12.6 x 9" perfectly.

I made the second one sized as suggested and it seemed really wide. BUT, that said... I loved this pattern and it's exactly what I was searching for! Thank you so much for sharing it.
