Dr. Seuss Matching Game - game board with matches madeDr. Seuss books can be incorporated all school year long into numerous teaching themes. And typically there's at least a week set aside to focus solely on this beloved author and his works. I came up with a simple matching game that uses several characters from different books. It doesn't take long to make and will last for years. The game is a perfect fit in the literacy/library center, as well as the quiet, 1-on-1 center.

Steps:

  1. With the paper turned horizontally, place 4 stickers on the left side in a column. Space them about half an inch apart.
  2. Dr. Seuss Matching Game - turn paper horizontal and place 4 stickers on left side

  3. Leave about two inches of space and make a second column of four stickers. And then a third. Make sure all of the stickers are different. Laminate the page. Cut the hard Velcro pieces and place one to the right of each sticker. Add the name of your game with a marker.
  4. Dr. Seuss Matching Game - add two more rows, laminate page and add hard Velco next to stickers

  5. Place the other 12 stickers on the second sheet of paper. Cut them out and laminate them. Place a piece of soft Velcro on the back of each sticker that you cut out.
  6. Dr. Seuss Matching Game - place other set of matching stickers on separate piece of paper cut and laminate

Dr. Seuss Matching Game - add soft Velcro to back

  7. Now you are ready to play the game! Match the sticker characters over and over again!
  8. Dr. Seuss Matching Game - ready to play and match

  9. One way to store the pieces is in a baggy. Put a piece of hard Velcro on the back of the game sheet and a soft piece on the baggy. Attach the baggy to the back of game sheet. Kids can easily take out the sticker cards to play and return them when they are done.
  10. Dr. Seuss Matching Game - you can attach a baggie to back of game board for storing cards
