Drilling In Wood

When drilling a whole in a piece of wood with a hand drill, use a nail or awl to start a hole where you plan to drill. That will help get the drill started and prevent it from skidding on the wood and leaving unsightly marks. Make sure the piece of wood that you are drilling is firm secured using a vice or a clamp.

Drilling In Wood

Also if you want a clean hole on the far side, put a scrap piece of wood under where your going to drill, the hole will come out clean with no burrs or breaks in the wood. (04/29/2008)
