I want to dye 4 84 inch, off white, sheers to a grey color in my washing machine. They are 100% polyester and are to be washed in cold on the gentle cycle.

You can try RIT dye with them, but usually your synthetic fabrics don't take dye as well as your natural ones, such as cotton and wool. You wold have to try it and see if the dye takes. It may take but a much lighter shade, in which case you may have to do it several times to get the shad you want.
