| Check Electricity Continuity in Your Freezer
If you travel often, even if only for a weekend, there is a chance your electricity may go off. If so, when you get home, you won't know if the food in your freezer has been thawed and then frozen again.

| Keeping Foods Cold Without Electricity
First of all, know what you want from the fridge, retrieve it quickly, and close the door to keep the cold in. Secondly, make room on the middle shelf of your fridge to put a plastic container. I used a basin that came from my husband's last trip to the hospital, but you could use a gallon ice cream container or just a large mixing bowl.

| Using Your Coffee Maker Without Electricity
Due to extended electrical outages caused by the last two hurricanes, we have discovered a few tips for coping with no electricity. The first couple days we made do with instant coffee. We have a gas range, so could heat water in a kettle.

| Information about Electric Generators
I am contemplating purchasing a power generator for those occasions when the electricity goes out. My main reason was to keep the cell phones going and be able to use at least one fan, because it gets mighty hot in here in the summer.

| Safe Candles for Power Outages
We had a power outage last night for about an hour. Lit a bunch of candles for light, had flashlights, batteries and car battery chargers with lights. I told DH to turn off the battery powered items and just keep the candles on as we had no way of knowing how long the outage would last (power company phone number was busy).

| Use Glow Bracelets for Nighttime Power Outages
Next time you are at the dollar store, pick up some of those Glo-Bracelets that light up when you crack them. Keep them tucked away to use the next time there is a night time thunderstorm. Just crack a bracelet open, (causing it to light up) and hang it on your little one's door knob. This way, if the electricity goes out during the night, your child will still be able to find their way to their door and then will be able to use the Glo-Bracelet as a little flashlight. My 9 year old daughter thought of this idea on a stormy night!

| Preparing For A Winter Power Outage
Our family recently survived a lengthy power outage after a major ice storm. We really did not find it that difficult to do, in part because we were prepared ahead of time. However, some of our neighbors who were not prepared ended up staying at a hotel for several nights, at the tune of $65 per night.

| Keep Jar Candles For Power Outages
Candles in glass jars give much better light when power goes out and are safer to use. Buy on sale and keep in designated place, so you are not searching in an emergency.

| Solar Lights For Power Outages
When we have a power outage, I bring in 2 or 3 of my solar lights from the garden. They are much safer than candles and can be recharged so they are always ready for use.

| Tealights For Power Outages
There are occasions when we have power outages and we use oil lamps and candles for lighting. I use T-lights (which burn 3-4 hours) in clear or frosted glass mugs I pick up at the local save-a-lot or dollar store for 'portable' lighting.
