Emergency Cards to Help Locate People and Pets
Most of us practice fire drills with our family members periodically to make sure everyone knows how to get out of a burning home, and where to meet. But what about your pets? They don't understand the idea that you are trying to teach.

Getting Ready for Winter
This is the time to prepare for winter if you live in one of our colder states. Waiting until the last minute to prepare for the cold or an outage most often results in spending extra money or putting money out for repairs.

Reflective Decorative Tape on Your Breaker Box
Be safe during power outages! Use some sort of reflective paint, stickers or tape on your breaker box, such as I have done in the photo.

Build Your Own Emergency Medical Kit
It's terribly important to have a medical kit in a convenient place, and I've also found that it's important to have one that's portable, so you can grab it in an emergency.

Freeze Water Containers for Emergencies
This is an excellent suggestion that was printed recently in our local paper as a tip for power failures during storms: make freezer packs by placing water filled water jugs, plastic pop bottles, or gallon ice cream containers in the deep freeze.

Give a Mending Kit With Donated Clothing
During the Katrina aftermath, the school I worked at in Texas had quite a few refugee families move in. People often donate used clothing for these kind of events, but sometimes that clothing isn't exactly perfect.

Prepare Your Freezer for Hurricane Season
Each year preparing for hurricane season, I fill plastic containers (ice cream buckets, milk jugs), with water to freeze. Should we lose power, the ice can be used to refrigerate food and drinks while the other containers help keep the freezer cold.

Weather Alert Radio Tips
Spring and summer are upon us, and my husband bought us a weather alert radio. These last years, I was tired of staying up half the night watching the weather. My husband bought us a midland radio, and I think I finally have it figured out.
