See if there is a Habitat for Humanity "ReStore" in your area. The one in our city has some very nice inexpensive furniture. You can also see if there is an online Freecycle group in your area. People post furniture that they are giving away.
Try the website: freecycle.org. There are freecyclers all over the world who give stuff away FOR FREE, hence the name! You just post what you want and then wait for replies. You have to pick the items up yourself, and your first post has to be a giveaway, but it can be a magazine, a pair of socks, or anything useful to someone else.
