I bought a glass cookie jar that sits on it's side with a wooden lid. The lid has no gasket to fit tight to the jar. Does anyone know where I could get one? I have tried Google and haven't found what I'm looking for yet. Would silicone work on the lid to make a tight fit? I'm hoping someone can help me, I really like the jar. Thanks so much.
I have two things to suggest. The first is a large, thick rubber band wrapped around the area of the lid that would normally be covered by a gasket. The second is to run a thick band of hot glue in that area to mimick a gasket.
I would use silicone caulk, but I would put it between two sheets of waxed paper or something. Then I would trim it to fit with scissors. Try looking on eBay first, because there are still manufacturers of those gaskets making them.
I had a thought of this today after reading this post a couple days ago: Wrap Saran wrap or other similar plastic wrap tightly around the inner part of the lid where the seal is missing.

If you measure the gasket size you need, you may be able to find it at your local hardware store, or online like Walmart / Amazon, so forth.
I always say "let's make sure it's in park". Try a wide rubber band. If that doesn't work then off to plan B!!
If all else fails, I would try an auto parts store.

You do not state the size but since yours is not a 'flat' seal you may have difficulty finding a fit.
I would suggest you take the gasket (and jar if possible) to an Ace or True Value Hardware store and ask them to help you find one.

This may sound odd, but try taking your gasket to a vacuum cleaner repair place if you have one. We have two by us and they carry a wide variety of gaskets and perhaps one can be used for your needs.

How can I get replacement gaskets for these square vintage jars (maybe Anchor). I've searched high and low. All I find is the flat seals (like orange ones) on Amazon which don't fit these jars. I've tried rubber bands too.
I need those which have a lip on the side of the seal so that it vacuum seals it. I recently bought about 7 jars, thinking I could just replace the plastic seal, but now I'm sad that these will never be airtight.
Your jars ARE Anchor Hocking. I can't find a source for new gaskets without knowing the diameter needed. You can look at this site for info on your jars, just not lid seals....
Yours are Anchor Hocking Wexford glass apothecary jars. Let us know seal diameter needed, and maybe we can find replacements for you. The photo of the lid with seal look like the lid and seal from a decorative Mr. Peanut glass jar.

their seal is a sort of full 'plastic' looking seal.
Take a look at the jars here and see if they are similar to yours but may be larger. Look at the type of seal they have.

I have canisters with wooden lids. The lids have a silicon seal/ring that are worn out and no longer have a tight fit. The size of the lid that fits into the jar is 3 1/4 inches. I have yet to find any similar to mine. Any suggestions?
I think this is the seal on the second photo and I do not find seals that you can use on your lids to replace them. If this is the case I would go to a local hobby shop or even a Home Depot and check out rubber or even soft plastic that comes in rolls that you can easily cut and put on the lids so they will seal again. The plastic looks like you could easily find another type of plastic that you could use in place of this one that would work just fine around the lip of the wooden lid to seal your jars again. I do know a lot of gas lids have a plastic piece that fits inside of jars to seal them. You can even try to find these types of lids and remove the plastic to fit on the wooden lid you have.

Since it appears the seal part comes off easily, to make them fit tight again, try removing the seals, add a bead of silicone caulk between the seal and the wood lid, and let cure -OFF the canisters. You will have to estimate just how much caulk to put between seal and wood, to hold it out enough for the ridged seal to seal tight again...DON"T add too much or you may not get the lid back on !!! OR you could try just putting a heavy bead of silicone caulk around the wood lid where the seal goes, and smooth it out a bit with your finger or the back of a plastic spoon to try making your own seal. Just remember to let it cure OFF the canister, or you might never get the lid off again. Good luck and report back any solution you find.
I can't figure out how to measure for the replacements. The inner opening of the jar not the lid is 3 1/4" diameter approximately. The replacements I see say they are 2 3/4" inner diameter.

Take your jar and go to a automotive seals and bearing supply,and they will fit them on the spot, but they're black rubber .or look up polyeurathane belting on nt select right use and diameter buy by the length and join perfect seals using their instructions easy peasy

I was referred to this site from CS at Anchor Hocking for suggestions on where to find gaskets for Anchor Hocking's Heritage Hill 2 gallon, 1 gallon, and 3 quart storage jars, preferably not red.
I'm looking for a canister seal ring. Apparently, it is unusual in the replacement world in that the ring fits as a band around a part of the lid which inserts itself into the canister. I found lots that are horizontally flat or ones which fit like a washer into the lid threads.
Mine is vertically flat with a flange (profile is a sideways "T" [-- shape). Lots of canisters are made with this detail. I just can't find a replacement. The size needed is 89mm ID, 95mm OD.
