Keep Spoons and Forks Handy for Cooking
Keep some spoons and forks in a small crock or large coffee mug on your kitchen counter. Whenever you need a spoon or fork while cooking, they are easy to get instead of opening and closing the kitchen drawer.

Use Red Clay Saucer for Baking Stone
When I had wanted a baking stone, and it was rather expensive, so, I thought about using red clay saucers, like red clay pots can bake bread in them, and I knew that pots and saucers can be fairly large.

Cut Meats With Kitchen Shears
My great grandmother would cut up meats like steak or pork chops using scissors. It works a lot better than using a knife and you can cut the meat closer to the bone.

Avoid Aluminum Cookware With Acidic Foods
If you are making a dish with acidic ingredients (mine was a sweet and sour fruit and nut salad), DO NOT use an aluminum pan. The whole dish will turn gray because of a chemical reaction.

Using Bamboo Utensils for Cooking
If you are buying bamboo items for cooking or serving, look for the telltale bamboo markings along the length of the item. Avoid anything that is made of little strips or you might be picking wood out of your dinner too.

I read about a neat way to keep up with corn on the cob holders that I thought I'd pass along the tip. After they are washed, stick them into a clean dry sponge until the next use.

Use Potato Masher as a Pastry Cutter
While visiting my sister last week, she wanted to try a new recipe I brought along. It called for cutting/blending butter and flour. Since she did not have a pastry blender, we were going to use the method using two knives.

The Can Opener
In our house, the Can Opener is King; that's just all there is to it. Now I like to think of myself as a decent housewife or at least an adequate one, but I do admit that most of my cooking skills depend on the contents of a No. 2 can.
