Fried Apples

Family favorite!

Ingredients:

  • apples (as many as you want to make)
  • brown sugar (depends on how many apples)
  • cinnamon
  • bacon grease or butter -I usually fry 2-4 pieces of bacon and save the grease

Directions:

Peel and slice apples. Heat bacon grease or butter (just to coat bottom of pan). I usually use an electric skillet, just because it's easy to regulate the temp. Add apples, sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon -you'll have to guess at how much, add sparingly and just taste a slice or two, til the apples are as sweet and cinnamony as you like. I usually add a few tablespoons of brown sugar and maybe 1-2 tsp.

of cinnamon. Do a quick fry of the apples, to melt and mix in the brown sugar and cinnamon, then put a lid on and lower the heat and simmer for maybe 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, and cook until the apples are tender, but still have a crispness to them. This is a really nice side for a brunch or breakfast!

If you don't have brown sugar, you can use white, but my family prefers the flavor of the brown sugar. The bacon grease adds a bit of a smoky flavor that we prefer over butter, but either works fine!

Enjoy!
