Getting Rid of Ants in an Exterior Lamp Post?

My outdoor lamp post is full of tiny brown ants. They are coming out of the electrical side socket. Not wanting to short out the socket I haven't sprayed. How can I safely treat the socket?

Simply spinkle with talcum powder. They can't walk on it and thus hate it. You will find they will leave in droves. Hope this helps.

Boric Acid Powder which you can get at any Family Dollar Store for about $2.00 and it kills the ants as well.

Sprinkle cornmeal around lamppost. The ants eat it but cannot digest it and they die. No poison needed. May take a few days.
