Gift Ideas for My Wife

I am looking for a present for my wife. I am thinking about lingerie, but the quality stuff is pretty expensive. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Try buying her something she needs around the house, that type of gift is always appreciated.

Examples: A new vacuum cleaner, dishwasher, fridge, or any other expensive yet useful appliance.

Also, considering the fact that you're newlyweds; maybe a romantic dinner, flowers, wine, and a special gift would be practical.

Examples: Jewelry, spa gift certificates, tickets to a nice play or musical, etc. (07/27/2006)

I personally don't think practical, household appliances would be an appropriate gift. Think something personal like, jewelry, perfume, a shopping trip, tickets to a concert of her favorite performer, or CD's of her favorite performer. What does she like to do? What would she do or buy for herself if she had the dollar amount you have available to spend? Don't buy her a can opener or vacuum sweeper. If you do buy something practical and expensive (which I hope you don't) let her pick the item or color or model since she'll be the one stuck using it most likely. (07/27/2006)

I think it is a matter of personality. I am 29, and think jewelery (unless really significant) and perfume are the worst way to go because you can have too much of both (even jewelery). I like to wear perfume, but I have bottles that are ten years old (from when my DH first gave them to me) and oodles of scented lotion. Unless it is earrings, some jewelery can be too tricky to buy (another topic in itself). The best surprise gift my DH got me was a dinette set I thought we couldn't get, but we got a bonus early so he picked it up and surprised me. Second best was a spa gift certificate. Third best was replacing my toaster oven for Christmas.

Or recall any time you have gone to someone's house or a store and she liked something for your own house, or see what you didn't receive on your gift registry (if done at a store, they usually keep the list on file for one year.) And always keep the receipt, just in case. (07/27/2006)

You are her love and best friend. Be her gift. Make it her day. Breakfast in bed, a nice ride in the country with a picnic lunch. Remind her how special you think she is. Why not rent a movie and make her favorite dinner? Birthdays are special because of the people celebrating with you, not the wrapped gift. If you give her a day, that is what will be the best present of all. (07/27/2006)

Gift Ideas for My Wife

Hi, just wanted to share a story with you.

I was turning 27 and had a made a comment to my husband about not looking forward to becoming 30 in a of couple years. We had been married year and a half and just started to have a little extra money each month. Back then, we were both in the navy living in Hawaii, away from friends and family, and had a 6 month old baby.

My husband surprised me with the best birthday ever. While I was at work, he went to the bakery and bought a white cake decorated with pink roses and had 29.9 written on it. You know, like I would never have to turn 30, I would stay 29.9.

Then he ordered takeout pizza so he didn't have to cook. He also hit the grocery store and decorated the table with fresh fruit, which he also fed to me later. He had also bought candles and pretty paper plates and cups, so no dishes to wash. So, the table was very pretty.

He had also purchased a couple of coffee mugs to match the table and doubled as gift and decoration, and I still have one of them today, 7 years later. It's my favorite coffee mug.

When I got to our townhouse, the first thing I saw was this beautiful table. (He had already fed the baby and put him to bed before I got home.) Then he led me to the bathroom where he had run me a bath and it was full of bubbles and bath salts. The room was bathed in candlelight.

Afterward, he sung happy birthday to me and we ate pizza, cake, and fruit. It was very sweet and romantic and pampering. I don't think he spent a lot of money on it, but to me it was priceless.

I'm sure if you think about your wife, you'll be able to plan a day she'll never forget. (07/28/2006)

If you were my husband and gave me an appliance unless it was specifically what I asked for, I'd run you out of the house. How about a big box with 25 gifts, whatever you want to spend. It could be 24 dollar store trinkets, bubble bath, scrunchies, candy, and then 1 significant gift. Or a $25 gift card to a favorite store or place like Starbucks. It all depends on your budget. Present this at the party, or privately at your more intimate celebration. (07/28/2006)

Roses and nice chocolates, like Godiva, are always appreciated (and safe). If your wife works in a setting where a delivery can be accepted, send them to her at work. Believe me, that always goes over big. And let her know you made this post and asked for help. She will be so flattered. (12/11/2007)

A nice jewelry item and a gift coupon (s) to allow her to pick out what she likes; the color, fabric, or better yet, shop with her and get involved offering suggestions. This way, she can say her husband helped pick it out for her for Christmas.

For winter time, I'd suggest something soft, warm and comfortable in fleece fabric that if she wants to lounge around in it awhile, it's A-OK and she'll stay warm too.

If more on the fancier scale, then satin is very pretty, soft and rich in appearance and makes you feel special. Slippers to match and a pretty piece of jewelry and she'll be lovely and feel lovely. Add a scented candle for that romantic touch and you'll be the light of her life. (12/12/2007)

Does she like chocolate ? A giant Hershey Kiss, ( I would love that ). How about making your own coupon book for her, with 25 coupons; such as a night out on the town, a sexy back rub, with music and candlelight, a puppy or kitten. How about 25 little token gifts from the dollar store, and make her hunt them down with hints, like a scavenger hunt. My daughter did this to me one day for my birthday. I loved it, she hid it in the yard, and took me at least 1/2 hour to find it. Hope this help just a bit ? A live plant instead of a bouquet, would suit me just fine, I keep telling every one, I would rather have one rose bush, instead of a dozen roses. (12/12/2007)

I agree that the lingerie idea is a touchy subject for most women. Why not buy her a bunch of things that she would not normally buy herself? The best x-mas gifts I've ever gotten from my hubby have been treats that I would never buy for myself, like make-up, books, a bunch of magazines, candles, coffee, chocolates, etc. I've gotten jewelry often, but it never had the same effect as a thoughtful gift of a bunch of little things I wanted, but never got because I felt I could live without it. It really is the thought that counts. (12/13/2007)

How about something that makes her feel good? Jewelry that reminds her of something you did together a long time ago? A painting of the place that you asked her to marry you? Just a thought, I'm out here looking for the same answers as you. (12/14/2007)

You may try printing her photo on a magic cup. It is a cup that shows the photo when it is filled with hot stuff. That will really amaze her. (05/18/2008)

I hit a birthday gift home run with my wife one year:
She loves going to those cheeky little strip mall shops that have cheap little rings and necklaces. She seems to put about every other ring on her finger and hold it up to the light. The stones are fake and the metal likely to turn a finger green, but it's pretty.

Anyways, I found a nice jewelry box that had little beads and colored stones fixed to the top and covered in colorful fabric. I knew she'd like it because I had seen her ogling over it one time when I was tagging along at the mall and acting like I was bored and not paying attention. It had spots inside that held rings, trays for earrings, and yadda yadda.

Then, went to that store and spent maybe $50 total on an assortment of cheap, but pretty jewelry. Yes, I was a guy standing amongst a throng of women picking through pretty jewelry. One must get comfortable with that to get a good girl gift. I filled up the box and then wrapped it up.

Not only did she get a nice jewelry box for all her real jewelry stuff, but her eyes nearly popped out of her head when she saw all the jewelry stuffed inside. She got to play dress up for a good couple of days and even see her accessorizing with a lot of the stuff even to this day. I over heard her telling her mom everything I did for her and then went on about a hour long phone call describing all the various jewelry. (11/26/2008)

This appears to be a really old post, but I am certain some guys must still reference it for ideas.

Wives don't want lingerie or practical gifts, at least not for birthdays and anniversaries anyway. As "just because gifts" they're fine, wonderful in fact, as most wives don't get just for the sake of it gifts from husbands anymore. That faded for most just around the first anniversary. Shame, but true for most. For important gifting occasions like her birthday, anniversaries, perhaps even Valentine's day, sentimental thoughtful gifts that say you care. Handmade gifts say this most strongly of all. Don't panic, you don't have to be that skilled.

Check out this post on making handmade paper roses: http://wp.me/pjtCY-7j

Or if that sounds like too much work then take a look at these loving and sentimental handmade creations called pages from the heart found at www.wandasworx.com. Any wife would die to receive one of these.
