| Thrifty Apartment Decorating

|
I am looking for tips on decorating an apartment thrifty style. I am a single mom and full time college student. I am trying to keep costs down (recent downsizing at work so I tighten the belt even more). I'm in Houston.

| More Light in a Dark Apartment

Our new apartment is nice - but dark - so I have been collecting mirrors of different kinds to arrange on the walls. I have 5 little ones grouped together in a narrow space and others of different sizes around the room to reflect the light, along with a large one on one wall.

| Vistas in Every Room

|
On a visit to my urban apartment a friends commented that I had put "vistas" in every room - and, although it hadn't been conscious, I realize that I had positioned pictures in every room that looked as if they were artistic "windows" to an outside natural world. It really does make it easier to live in the city with them.

| Decorating on a Budget

 I'm on a very tight budget, but still want my apartment to look nice! Here's one of the simple ways I've "decorated." I bought three bamboo plants (at about $2 each, I think), and then put them in a bright blue vase. The color contrast between the green bamboo and blue vase is striking, and for added color, I put two lavendar tealight holders that I received as a gift on either side of the vase (along with two blue picture frames).

| Can't Paint the Apartment?

If you're renting an apartment and can't paint the walls the color you wish, but want to dress up your rooms, accessorize with big, colorful pictures for the walls, some snazzy throw pillows, and bold colored furniture. Remember also, that colored lamp shades and colored light bulbs can help change the room from blah to better!

| Decorating Advice for Seafoam Green Carpet

I'm moving into an apartment where I cannot change the carpeting. It is in good shape, but the color is a seafoam green. The bedroom is a blank slate, but I do not know what color to use with the green on the carpet. It is very hard to match with all of the olives and sages that are so popular now. I am just at a loss of what to do with this unpopular color.

| Looking for Frugal Wall Decorations?
|
 As a college student on a budget - and one living in an apartment where white walls prevail - I was stuck for cheap decorating ideas.
Then it came to me - CD covers! It's amazing how elaborate some of the CD artwork can be, and I had so many of them sitting on my shelf gathering dust. Ten minutes and about 30 CD inserts later, I had some fabulous wall art. All it took was some tape to hold them in place and voila!
