I have dark gray carpet and modern laminate (gray/white/flecks of black) (looks like granite) bedroom furniture. I've had a very light blush paint for the first three years, currently satin white for 15 years.
I recently purchased a zebra print comforter set for my daughter's room. To carry out the theme, she wanted zebra print switch plate covers. Instead of purchasing pre-made ones, we decided to create our own from plain, inexpensive switch plate covers.
I am not sure this is considered a frugal or thrifty tip in everyone's book but it is to me as it saves me a lot of time and energy and don't have to wait for hubs to be around to help me.
This is not only decorating, but crafty as well. I had an older style futon for a bed frame, and it was black shiny metal. Not conducive to a nice lilac and mint green bedroom. I had a bedspread that I loved but was a square and never fit on the bed, so I cut it into strips and "wrapped" the entire bed frame in it.
This is a Pillow Topper that I created to replace the typical sham. I just place it over my pillows in the morning. This is much easier and time saving than having to put on shams and it adds to the overall beauty of my bedroom.
