I found this cool idea on an old Sunset Magazine Website. Or perhaps it is new, but I just saw it recently. These folks made a mud room in their remodeled house in AK, and put up old fish steamer baskets for shelves!

You can wall paper a small area with maps or even foreign language newspapers. When I was a kid I just LOVED a hallway of some friends of my parents which was papered in National Geographic maps!

Spiffing Up Waste Baskets
You can cover inexpensive plastic waste paper baskets from the dollar store and elsewhere with marbled contact paper to spiff them up. Use flowered paper, too, to fit the color scheme. Works on vinyl as well as hard plastic and makes them look much more expensive.

Little Twig Tree for Decorating All Year
This idea can be used all year as well as Christmas. I gathered branches and made sure all the leaves were off and spray painted them white, I found a basic vase, that would accept the white spray paint, I found the little twinkle lights and put those on the branches after they were dry...
