Is anyone burning Anthracite coal in a wood burning stove? It seems there should be a way to accomplish this using some sort of cast iron grate. Does anyone know anything about this? Where can I buy a cast iron grate for coal burning? Thanks for any help you can lend.
We tore the fireplace insert out and are going to replace it with the old wood-stove that I had in my childhood home. I am looking for ideas I am really into rustic, western, nature and just old decor in general. It is a rock fireplace and pretty large, any ideas for this space ? I have even thought about taking the shelves out of one or both side.
I wanted to clean my chimney before I started using the fireplace. I went to my local Ace Hardware Store and purchased the 'Soot Eater Chimney Rod' for $82. This contraption looks like a weedeater and basically works like one! I used my husband's cordless drill or you can use an electric drill. It comes with 5 rods so it will fit nearly any size chimney in height and dimension
Get 4 wooden shipping pallets and two 8 foot steel fence posts. Lay two of the pallets on the ground away from the house. Have someone hold the other pallet on end then drive one of the steel posts into the ground about three feet. This will leave five feet sticking out above ground. Do the same at the opposite end leaving the pallets standing against the post. Now you are ready to stack your firewood.
I have a corn stove I was going to hook up in my basement. Someone suggested since my window was broke, why don't I run the pipe out that window. It comes with a wall fitting around the pipe. But I have to hold it in the window. I didn't want to use plywood.
