Make It Last
By Kelly Ann Butterbaugh
The average oil burner lasts 20-25 years. A car usually lasts 10. Windows have a guarantee of fifteen years, and appliances come with three year warranties. Only a few decades ago, people bought items without worry about how long they would last.

Avoid Using Dryer Sheets
Avoid using fabric softening sheets in your dryer, because the build up on your lint catcher becomes dangerous and keeps air from flowing properly.

Buy Second Hand Appliances
We sold our 3 bedroom home and moved into what is known as a 2 bedroom apartment home. We sold all our appliances with the house because we just didn't want to move them.

Anyone have an opinion about getting a tankless water heater as opposed to using an oil burner tank for all hot water?

Wiring Dishwasher with 3-Prong Plug
Is it okay to wire a dishwasher with a 3 prong plug (GFCI)? I'm having trouble direct wiring it due to previous owners wiring. I have a 3 wire coming from the box (2 red, 1 white). It is connected to a 3 wire that goes to an outlet box which is located under the cabinet, by the dishwasher. I think that is the way they had the old dishwasher but I'm not 100% sure.

Painting Metal Shelves In Refrigerator
How would I prepare and paint the metal shelves in my refrigerator? I think they are aluminum, and they look all mottled. Other than that the fridge is in great condition.

Maytag Washing Machine Doesn't Spin Out All The Water On Delicate
My 10 year old Maytag washing machine doesn't spin all the water out when I use the delicate setting (we use this most often). I've been re-setting the dial to a different selection to remove the water. Considering its age, is this repair worth doing? Any idea about the cost?
