Home Remedy for Dog Mange

Home Remedy for Dog Mange

I am looking for a recipe for mange. It is for a 100 lb. collie. It is a mixture of borax, peroxide and water. Also what is the best treatment for ear mites, white vinegar vs. witch hazel and olive oil?

On Dogtown (a TV show) they said that Mange is a nasty parasite that can only be permanently removed with a medicine and/or shampoo recommended by a vet (it will get worse and worse!). It's more than the pet loosing it's hair, the mange parasite burrows under the pets skin, it itches and hurts him or her.

Call your local vet's office and talk to the receptionist to see if they carry something you can buy from them. Just because something is "natural" doesn't mean it's always better. Hope everything works out for your pet! (05/19/2009)

You did not mention what type of mange your pet has, but here's the recipe you asked about. My daughter's chi was born with demodectic mange and that's hereditary. The chi is spayed, so no litters will take place. The chi is one year old and is doing well using Ivomec Plus Injection in a very small dose. A vet will not recommend this for your pet unless it's a cow, but it does work and you can do a google search and learn more about Ivomec Plus Injection for dogs with mange.

The chi has all her fur returned and is very healthy, active and has shiny fur. She also is fed quality dog food which helps and has lots of attention and care given to her skin from the time she was diagnosed with demodectic mange requiring gentle shampoos, and the vet put her on the flea and tick treatment called Advantage Plus for awhile before she used the Ivomec. The Ivomec showed quick improvement.

We just took in a stray with Mange. I'm using 1 cup hydrogen peroxide, 2 cups warm water and 3 Tablespoons of borax. I've only used it twice. Haven't seen too much of a change yet, but we're hopeful! Good Luck (05/19/2009)

I'd try white vinegar, using a 10% to begin. Slowly up the percentage till it's straight. It's an acid and most things that don't belong there, have a narrow Ph range. It works on candida, too. It's possible that you may have to go to the vet, but try the vinegar first. (05/27/2009)

You really need to take your dog to the vet. There is a mange that can kill your dog if not treated right. It needs medication for this type of mange. Don't put your dog at risk, go see the vet! (05/27/2009)
