I'm having my 17th birthday and I have no idea what to do. I mostly hang out with people older than me who like to drink and all that fun stuff, but I want everyone to say wow that was really fun. I don't want people saying that was lame. So any ideas on what to do?

I'm not sure why a 16-year-old is hanging out with people over 21 unless they're relatives. If they are really your "friends" they should just have fun being with you and not expect to be drinking with an under-age person. Invite people who are closer to your own age and your older friends could come too. There are all kinds of things you could do, movies and pizza, game night, Wii night with karoke, etc. Good luck and have fun. I hope your parents will be there to help. (12/02/2010)

When I was 16 I also had mostly much older friends (some in their 30's), but I was blessed that they were not focused on drinking and/or partying. I can't help but ask why you would worry about looking like you're lame for your birthday celebration choice when you're turning 17 if you don't 'go with their flow' with people who can't be high on life, but rather high on intoxicants?
What would truly be lame is if you choose to hang out with supposed friends who would think you are the one who is lame for wanting to do something that is good old fashioned clean fun rather than doing something that could possibly lead you to make bad choices (by being high)?
I know this is going to sound really weird to you, but I can almost guarantee that if you even had a party at a bowling alley, yes old fashioned, but it really is actually a lot of fun, that you will not be sorry and will cherish the fun memories of putting on those rented bowling shoes, choosing a bowling ball to play with, striking or not, eating gross bowling alley hamburgers and hot dogs and trying to keep score of the game.
