Inserting a Bayonet Style Bulb into Socket?

When I put the bayonet style bulb with the two lead lumps at the bottom and two small locking pins sticking out the side into the pigtail slot made for the locking pins and then give it the clockwise turn to lock it in place, they don't connect with the two terminals in the socket. The two terminals (lead lumps at the bottom of the bulb) don't line up with the two terminals in the pigtail socket. Is there a way to turn the terminals in the socket a half a turn without turning the whole socket that way when I put the bulb in and turn it a 1/4 turn to lock it, it lines up?
