We adopted this wonderful puppy on December the 21st. We were told that he is a German Shepherd mix. Does anybody have any idea, maybe mixed with Belgian Malinois or Lab? As you can see his tail got broke in 3 places, making a kind-of 'M'. We love him more for it!
Sam from Little Rock, AR
He looks like a GSD mix to me! (01/25/2008)
It's a little hard to tell from the pic. To do good breed identification you need to look at the entire dog and how they stand.
It looks like there's a little Shep in there but at least 1/2 pit also. See how squared off the snout is? The fur is short, golden colored and it looks like the hind quarter is the powerful one of a pit terrier. The ears are shorter and less pointy than you'd have on a Shep or Malinoois...even if they were the dominant breed in a mixture.
That's not a bad thing! It isn't the dog, it's the owners that create bad pets. On any paperwork you do for the dog; I'd only put down that he's a Shepx. It's less hassle for you and alleviates the "pit" stigma and laws in certain areas. If people persist in knowing what the other parts of the mix are my friends will just say "probably 57 other things" or something like that.
My pure Am Staff is almost 17 years old and one of the best dogs I've ever had. Labs have great pr but they aren't always the best dogs. They're major chow hounds and tend to have problems with real hyperactivity and nervousness even if they are well exercised.
Belgian Malinois are a close cousin to the German Sheps usually seen in America. But, your dog's head looks nothing like a Malinois except for a little bit of black fur on the snout. The body doesn't either.
You've got an adorable puppy but he's mostly a generic pit terrier (American Staffordshire Terrier x), a little shep and probably at least one other breed thrown in for good measure. This gives you a HUGE plus when it comes to health care and radically decreases the likelihood of breed specific health problems and congenital defects.
Enjoy him and make sure he gets plenty of exercise consistent, loving discipline and proper socialization! (01/28/2008)
He looks like a Great Dane/ Shep mix to me. He's cute. (01/29/2008)
He looks like he has Great Dane in him. How big is he...and how big are his feet? (01/29/2008)
I just adopted a dog that looks just like yours! They said she's a GSD, but I think she's a Belgian Malinois mix too! (the picture is a few weeks old though, and her ears stand up more) (02/19/2008)
This was a picture of my puppy when she was a baby. She is a Belgian malinois American Staffordshire terrier mix. Strikingly similar to your dog. She looks a little different now. (04/10/2008)
This is what my puppy looks like now. She has changed a little, but her markings and coat type are identical to your puppy. (04/10/2008)
thanks for commenting! your dog looks exactly like mine. about how tall or how much does she weigh?
Wow, my dog also resembles your dog. I also am trying to find out whether she is pit/lab or pit/shepard. What do you think? (07/22/2008)
Wow, looks like my gabbygirl, i also am not sure what her mixed breed is (07/22/2008)
My friend has a dog that looks identical to your puppy. The vet said she was part Staffordshire terrier mix amd part German shepherd. (09/04/2008)
I think we have one too. Any other ideas what she could be? This is her at 6 months. mncolgan at yahoo (10/09/2008)
I just got a puppy that looks like all yours and I was told that she is a German shepard/doberman mix, but she does not look like a doberman in any way. (10/22/2008)
We have two Sheppards one the one in the back of the picture "Chac" and it 2 1/2 years old and "Whisky" he is 6months old the one in front. We know for a fact that "Chac" is a Malinois Belgium Shepard. We live in Cancun, Mexico and they are used here exclusively for police and military and some privately owned.
We bought "Whisky" thinking that we were getting another Malinois Belguim Shepard and was promised by the Pet Strore we bought him in. However, there are definite differences in the two and upon research we now think that he is a Great Dane/Malinois Mix. We are stumped too. His feet are huge and he is really big for just 6 months to be a Malinois. Feed Back? (10/26/2008)
This is our dog named "Whisky" we have been seriously wondering if her is the Malinois Belguim Shepard that we thought we had bought. He is 6 months here. Any thoughts?
I've got one too! I got Wylee from a shelter and they said that she is a German Shepard mix, but I see more Belgian Malinois. (12/29/2008)
We have a puppy too that looks like them. They said she's a great dane/German Shepherd mix. She stands 26" tall with 8 month but only weights about 60lbs. She has the face of a Shepperd though!the pic is from when we first got her with 3 month. (01/03/2009)
Holy moly! The picture below is a picture of burrito at 3 months. Now his ears are erect (most of the time), and i should of sworn, Jeffrey with the 7 months great dane/shepherd mix, stole a picture from my hard drive and posted as his dog!
He is a German Shepard mix (mom), and American staff terrier (dad) mix. or at least that's what I've been told.
He is 55 lbs. at 6 months now, but doesn't really have that stocky pit bull body but not long legged either. (01/31/2009)
Here is our adopted "mutt" from animal control. He was only about 2 months when we got him, but found later through DNA testing (the one that tests using blood, not saliva) that he was all Belgian Malinois. (02/15/2009)
That's a mix cause it doesn't look any thing like a German Shepperd. (02/26/2009)
This is Ribsey. We were told by the adoption place that she was German Shepard/Great Dane Mix. She has black marble markings all over her fur, and it doesn't seem to matter how much we feed her, because she stays slender. I don't know what she is, but she's beautiful. This is her at 6 months.

Hi. My 4 month old puppy looks just like all of these doggies! I am really wondering what she is mixed with. The vet says shepherd mix for now and that he will know more when she is older. She is now 20 pounds and super super smart and very well-behaved. Any ideas? (03/05/2009)
This is my baby Romo. I got him from the pound a little over a year ago and they said he was German Shepherd/ Chow mix. I don't know how accurate they are. (04/03/2009)
Yes, it is. I have the same dog and it looks exact to yours. (11/22/2009)
Our puppy, Eva (3 months in this picture) looks just like Ella or Wylee. We adopted her from the shelter when she was 3 months. She's almost 4 months now and her ears are more pointed now. We were also told that she's a German shepherd mix, (but she looks more like a Belgian Malinois). Whatever she is, I say she's a very smart dog! =) (12/11/2009)
Wow I am so glad I found this web page, my fiance and I found it a while back. These dogs look identical to our dog too! We know there is German Shepard and he uses his paws like a boxer but there is also that missing link. I joke around that when you get too many watercolors together it turns brown that is our dog Mikey! We got him from the pound and all that was labeled was a German Shepard mix! So curious may do DNA testing in future. (01/02/2010)
Hi. This dog looks just like our Isavella. Her mom is a full blooded boxer and dad is a full blooded German Shepard. Now all she does is chew everything. She is also very smart. (01/09/2010)
Wow! I've been trying to figure out what kind of dog I adopted from the pound for a year. A lot of these dogs posted look a lot like my Aries. (01/09/2010)
Hi my name is Mike I have a puppy that looks just like yours his name is jack his dad was German shepherd and his mom was a great Dane boxer mix. I was browsing to see what he might look like when he gets older he's like 7 or 8 months. He looks just like your dog sorry for the poor picture quality $8.00 camera and jack the dog was moving. (02/08/2010)
This is Brownie. She is a shep mix. I don't know with what though. This pic was about a year ago. (02/20/2010)
a year later (02/20/2010)
Wow! Glad I found this page also! I rescued my puppy Trinnie and she is a Shep mix, I think she has some Dane in her, maybe I'll check out the DNA costs! (04/02/2010)
Here's a recent picture of Eva (62 lbs @ 9 months). She's a big girl now and looks at least 50% GSD (well, the ears at least). (05/17/2010)
She looks like she could be the same as my girl Khali. Khali is Belgian Malinois and Australian Cattle dog. She's 5 and is only 60 pounds but she moves like a rocket and is pretty much indestructible. (08/21/2010)
A lot of these dogs look just like our Princess. She is turning 8 this October and her mom is full boxer and dad is full German Shepherd. (10/08/2010)
Your dog looks a bit like my dog. Floyd's a German Shepherd cross Stafford Bull Terrier.
