Is it Safe to Use an Aspirin Face Mask?

Bronze Request Medal for All Time! 65 Requests

I am into alternative homemade skin products and was reading about an aspirin face mask. You add 4 aspirin to 1 tsp of water and when dissolved apply to face avoiding the eyes. You leave on for 15 minutes. Would this be harmful? Many thanks.

So here is the dish on Aspirin. It is a blood thinner. Do not use it if you have been drinking. Do not use it if you have Reye's Syndrome or if you are on any other medications.

Your body is covered with mucous membranes. Yes, even on your skin. Mucous membranes function as something that absorbs and secretes things. That is why pain patches or nicotine patches work...they are absorbed into your skin. Yes Aspirin can be absorbed through your skin. With that said, It would take alot more than an aspirin mask to hurt you in the least little bit. Just don't do it if you are allergic or on other blood thinners, and you should be perfectly fine! If you are still not so sure or if you have a reaction, definately consult a doctor. Do not leave on for more than just a few minutes. It can dry your skin out very badly.

Aspirin is made from white willow bark. It is a form of salicylic acid which is the same ingredient that is used in many face products, including proactive for sensitive skin, blemish sticks, acne medicines, etc. It has a tendency (being an acid) to help exfoliate the skin, giving the face a fresher "glow." I'm not sure, if you are allergic when taking the product internally, that you'd have any reaction or the same reaction when using it externally--you'd best check with your MD. I've used it for a facial mask with no problems. I dissolve an entire bottle of uncoated aspirin in some vinegar (in a wide mouth jar), then dilute with some purified water and shake.

I dab it on my face, allow it to dry, then rinse it off. What's left in the jar will keep indefinitely, just screw on a lid--preferably a non metal one due to the vinegar's acidity. The vinegar will restore the skin's pH level, cut oiliness and reduce acne, and together they will soften the skin and reduce inflammation. I've had far better results using this cheap homemade mask than from really expensive skin products. I regularly use it in the summer months when my skin is extremely oily with great results. Just make sure you don't use too much vinegar, because it/it's fumes will make your eyes tear.

I have heard that medicinal type creams, etc. can be absorbed into the skin, and therefore care should be taken, especially if you are taking other medications. I would assume the same would apply to an aspirin mask. Exactly what is this mask supposed to do? The only thing I put on my face is basic hand and body lotion when I am ready to go to bed, and when I was younger and could see well enough without glassed to apply makeup, I used a lot of heavy foundation.

I have people tell me that I look 10-15 years younger than my 70 years.

I've used the aspirin mask. It makes the skin very smooth and reduces redness/irritation. Just leave it on for 2-3 minutes. I saw no benefit leaving it on longer. Besides, as it dries it just flakes off the skin.

What is an aspirin facial supposed to do for u? I agree with most of the previous posters, care must be taken that you aren't allergic(skin reaction) or taking medications that counterindicate aspirin use.

If you are allergic to aspirin, you can have a reaction to it even if it is put on the skin. I work in the medical field. Just be extra safe.

Many thanks for all the replies re: the aspirin face mask. I will take extra caution when trying this.
