Your Pet's Breed
Pyrenean Mountain Dog (Great Pyrenees)

How and when did you get your pet?
I adopted Jonah 4 years ago from our local pet shelter.

What does your pet like to do for fun?
Jonah is especially fond of herding my other pets, no matter their species- parrots included! He loves to be groomed and brushed more than anything else for relaxation.

Do you have anything else to share about your pet?
Great Pyrenees are in the working dog class. They serve as faithful and devoted guardians of their owners, property, and livestock. They are believed to have come from Siberia and their fossil remains date as far back as the Bronze Age (1800-1000 BC). They were adopted as a French Court dog in the 17th century. They are often described as "majestic", with a calm and gentle disposition, but move with grace and speed to protect family and livestock. Males can reach 32" at the shoulder and top out at over 100 lbs. They live approximately 10-12 years, and make wonderful family dogs. I love Jonah very much and would not hesitate to adopt another GP, or advise his breed to others who were able to meet his needs!

Thank you so much!! When you look into his eyes, you can easily see his Sweetness. They are so gentle and kind! Every one I've ever 'met' has had this same kindness in their eyes. They are very gentle giants, but when it's time to be serious they bravely do anything they need to.

They are very long in the body, so they require room to 'turn around'! Thank. you for your kind words; Jonah is my angel...

Goodness - i wish sometimes that I had a dog like Jonah - but - I am now 82 and my family all say NO to a big dog so I'll just have to love them from afar.
Wishing you and Jonah many happy years ahead.

We thank you, CyberGrannie, & LOVE your 'name'.!! How about a Shitzu or a French Bulldog? Both are small dogs & neither is a breed that barks. & yips all day long!! (Thank goodness!!) Both of these breeds are lovely, but very different, depending on what you like. Shitzu's weigh less, so that's a bit nicer for your lap. :) Just wanted to offer up a few suggestions in case you needed them!!

I've had a lot of experience with both breeds and I often suggest them to those looking for a smaller dog, they both have great character, are smart & cuddly, funny & cute, & don't bark incessantly for no reason, the way many small breeds do. I hope you find this helpful!! With warmest regards!! Ivey

I'm going to talk to my son about these breeds and see what he thinks. They sound nice. Thank you so much for taking the time to send this information to me.
my two grandsons gave me my "name" many years ago as I played games right along with them - before they "grew up" but we still love the computer.

:) Hello!! I would be MORE than happy to suggest other breeds to you, as well, if you'd like. Dogs are my life!! If you can tell me some qualities you would be interested in, & something of your lifestyle ( such as : are you extremely active, or a couch potato? :) Are there any young children who visit often? Are there other pets in your home; what kind?, Do you have a yard with a fence or live in an apartment? Would your dog be an "inside" or mainly "outside" dog? What would you like of him? Companion? Guard dog?- Matching the right breed to your lifestyle and personality go a VERY long way in making a happy, successful match for both of you!!

For instance, I forgot to mention that Shitzu's shed rarely if at all, & are "hypoallergenic"- perfect for allergy sufferers. I do seem to recall that their hair grows continually long, so needs to be kept cut to the length you prefer. There are several breeds with this trait, actually. Dogs are amazing. I am a 47yr old woman who has worked with dogs & professionally rescued wild animals, as well. I'd be happy to help you with any information I can!! Dogs + people= Perfect companions & immeasurable LOVE!! May God bless and keep you & yours, always!! Ivey
