Your cats or somebody else's? I have just a few suggestions. A garden hose is the very best! Also, cats. must have their own perches and enticing food at their home. If you see the cats, you can use sharp "Hsssst!" and a gravel spray.

Cats are smart and will learn, but they just have to be aware first. There are two different repellent sprays at my hardware store, one that has a strong garlic/citronella scent, the other does not, so try these.

Also you can put something with an undesirable texture on your fence ledge, such as something tacky, or spiky, or a length of soaker hose. I have many cats myself. If they are your cats, you have more control.

If ferals or belong to someone else, then there could be territory issues so cats are fanning out to your wall; so territory issues should be resolved at the owners' such as separate litter boxes, feeding dishes, things to make them want to stay closer to home?

Also, cats like tall grass in the hot weather; let a patch of grass get tall to attract them away from your wall (again, if they are your cats).

As a cat lover, I feel I understand them. They don't seem to care if you don't want them to do something. They see your efforts to deter them as an obsticle to overcome. To keep them off your wall you must make it so they don't want to get up there. I am curious though as to why you don't want them there.

Feral cats, and also cats that are allowed outdoors seem to have regular paths that they take when they are out for their nightly (or daily) prowl. I once lived in a town where a favorite cat path was right across my yard.

You didn't show a picture of your wall but if the top is flat you can cut a piece of "chicken fence". If you don't live in the states this is a light weight wire fencing that bends easily. Cut it in a strip as wide as the top of your wall and lay it across the top buckling it often so it doesn't lay flat. Secure it with a brick here and there. The cats won't like walking across it and will soon change their walking path to another place.

Thank you, this sounds like the best idea and the easiest to do.

I also love cats, BUT....I have dogs........I put up a six foot privacy fence for my DOGS. The neighbors cat (cats) come in and poop and my dogs find it. I have always cleaned up my dogs poo.

I do not want it in their play area and IT STINKS! I purchased a
diaper genie to dispose of my dogs poop after I pick it up with a paper towel and put it in a ziplock bag. I am serious about a clean yard. The fenced in area is 90 x 25. These same neighbors dog has attacked a dog ( three times) that lives 3 doors down. They said I"m sorry. Do you think they care about their neighbors?

I want the neighbors cats to stop pooping in my vegetable beds and to stop teasing my dogs, causing them to bark. I want my dogs to bark for the right reasons. And cat pee stinks, reeks, is foul. Enough reasons?

Did you try the chicken wire idea? Or any other ideas that worked? I 100% agree with how you feel. I am going thru the same situation with loose cats pooping in my roses. My dog has been getting sick and the only conclusion the vet and I can come up with is the cats poop. Plus he has had two knee surgeries and should not run but darts to the wall every time he sees a cat, sometimes returns limping. They set off my security cameras all night. They pee on my artificial turf right outside our bedroom doors which had caused my dog to Mark there as well.

People are so inconsiderate when they allow their pets (of any kind) to free roam. Not to mention how dangerous it is for their pet. My dog has killed two cats by catching them on the wall. I was absolutely horrified, devastated and frightened. I never want to experience that again. I felt so bad for the cat and my dog also had to receive medical care for his cuts, the swelling and the cat urine spray which could have caused infection. Everyone loses in situations like this.

I hope your situation has improved and hopefully mine does too

The reason for not wanting cats in my yard:

  1. I feed doves and little birds
  2. I plant lots of veggies and seeds and they love to poop in soft earth
  3. Advertisement

  4. I am 82 years and I already picked up two 5 Gallon cans full of catpoop
  5. I don't like howling in middle of night
  6. I don't like cat urine on my back or front door
