My Mama used to make this quite often in the summertime. She used about the same recipe as you offered. However she used to dice up a boiled egg into the mix, and sometimes a chopped bell pepper. If she was out of sweet pickle relish, she would dice up a dill pickle instead. We enjoyed this with a meatless meal of fresh green beans, yellow crook necked squash, fresh tomato slices, and sliced cucumbers. Yum ! Makes me hungry.
