Kitchen Cabinet Paint Color Advice?

I currently have maple colored cabinets and I want to paint them. My counters are cranberry and the kitchen opens to the living room which is a mix of browns, cranberry, green blue, and gray. My appliances in my kitchen and my kitchen walls are white so I am not sure that I should paint them white. However, I do want something light that will open up our kitchen space. Please help!
