Link: Play Online Games That Donate To Charities

Gold Post Medal for All Time! 846 Posts

Simply enjoying playing some online games at these two links will help generate donations for women in need of mammograms or help for animal rescue shelters! The sponsors will donate up to 10 cents per each minute of play.

I know there are others out there like me that are not a fan of Facebook, and I almost didn't give this a try but when I found out that you don't have to sign up or be logged in to play I was ready and willing!

This is a win - win situation for women and animals who need help, and for you to contribute simply by having some fun time! I've been alternating which site I play the games at to help both good causes. Check out these links for details and to play.

By Deeli from Richland, WA

Editor's Note: There are other sites that also donate to charity. I am fond of FreeRice.com, an educational word game site that also donates to help end hunger worldwide. If you know of any other sites like this, please post them in the feedback below.

Great idea to post! I already partake on The Animal Rescue Site, but for all you animal lovers, there's a great site (and sister site) that Mimi, a young girl, created that you can click daily to contribute kibble to dogs and cats. And you also learn fun trivia!

Dogs: www.freekibble.com/
Cats: www.freekibblekat.com/

And another site for many ways to make a difference, like for homeless pets, feeding children, child abuse, kids with cancer and feeding the poor:
clicktogive.com/

All these sites can send you a daily email reminder, so all it takes is just a few minutes, if that. Have fun clicking!

Deeli, thanks for the info.; I click on these sites every day anyway to donate but didn't realize they had games. But how in the world did you manage to play and donate without joining Facebook?! Every time I tried, as soon as I was done with each game, it would throw up a "join FB" now page that wouldn't let me save my score--which of course is the only way they can then do the donation, without joining stupid FB; no "submit score without joining FB" box was offered, no nothin' but a stupid "join FB now" box.

(Can you tell I'm also not an FB fan? :D) So if you, or anybody else, can help me out with this, it'd be much appreciated; thanks!

I played regularly until they put them on FB, Once on FB, they kept freezing up and it was a hassle. Don't like them. So I just click every day.

Great info to know, Deeli! And the FreeRice.com site has several categories, not just vocabulary: English grammar, math, the periodic table, and two choices for geography are also available, or were, last I had time to visit. I need to get back, but things have been crazy around here!

Personally, I'd be very skeptical of any site that tells you they would donate to Charities. if you wish to donate, do it directly and not through a middle-man.The next time you receive a telephone solicitation, (Children's Cancer, Children's Make a Wish, etc.) ask the caller if he/she is a volunteer or employed by said organization and how much of your contribution goes to the said organization? Typically you will find that the caller is not with the organization, but with a Solicitation Company.

of your donation, about 15% goes to the Charity; 85% goes to Solicitation. True! Ask next time.

For those who call you to donate to the local Policeman's Fund for children of Widows, ask if they are connected with your municipality, 99.99% of the time they are not, if you're still interested in donating, ask to receive last year's Financial Report. 100% of the time you will not receive anything!

BTW, scams will claim to donate to anything that sounds close to emotional: Children's Cancer, Abused Wives/Mothers, Disabled Orphans, Disabled Veterans Rehabilitation, anything to tug at your heart, don't be scammed, again, if you want to donate to your favorite charity, do so directly, very easy to locate on the Internet!

Thank you all who have commented so far! :-)

Cajun, your skepticism about assorted charities is healthy but the skepticism for this particular suggestion is unwarranted. Every single free 'play or click to give' charity mentioned here by myself or any other person who has commented so far is completely on the up and up! It is free for us to click or play because it's the charity sponsors who are the ones who give the monetary donations agreed upon between them (for which those companies receive a tax break) and all other funds by these particular charities are raised through direct monetary donations made by you or me or from sales of assorted merchandise. Here is a link that will take you to where you can click the 'to give site' that has a total of eight categories, two of those categories also having the 'play to give' I suggested in this tip. The first launched site was in 1999 (The Hunger Site) and the most recent two (The Veterans Site and The Autism Site) were launched this year. You can scroll down towards the end of each category page and click on 'Common Questions' to find out detailed information about each one.

JustPlainJo, thank you so very much for sharing with us that FreeRice has other categories! I never knew that and have only played the vocabulary games so will now check out the other choices. Hope you can get back to playing again soon!

Lighthouselady, I am sorry your game is freezing up now when playing. Have you tried it by not logging in? That might possibly be the cause depending on your computers security settings when at the actual site? Bravo for continuing to click every day! I've been clicking every single day (except when out of town or in the hospital. LOL) since about 2002.

Lynn From California, I can't stand FB. I had signed up when it was brand new but disliked it within a couple of months and have only used it twice since then. Once when a cousin begged me so I could see family home videos he had posted there and the other to vote for the Chase Community Giving contest last month. I voted for both Norfolk Botanical Gardens (because of the Norfolk Eaglets whose mama was killed by a plane a couple months ago) and the Wildlife Center of Virginia (who took the eaglets in to care for them until they are ready for release this coming fall). NBG ended up winning $125,000 and WCW won $225,000. Anyway, just go ahead and sign up for FB by using an anonymous name. You don't have to set up a profile and you can choose security settings which include not ever being contacted by anyone, including FB, and that way you can play without logging in and your playtime will count. :-)

Jpdoughgrl, thanks so much for sharing the FreeKibble links! I do that every day too and love learning the trivia! I love how their sponsors often give out extras to charities through assorted contests for even your favorite local shelters! Actually even wrote them a couple months ago to let them know one of their trivia answers was incorrect and they wrote back the same day thanking me for the information and let me know they have changed it in their data base so that if they use it again it will be correct. It was the one where the answer was kitty litter being invented in St. Paul, MN (which was where the inventor was born) when actually Ed Lowe invented it in Cassopolis, MI about a decade after he moved there. I only knew that fact because one side of my family has been in Cassopolis since the 1850's (yes 1'8'50's).

Cajun, I'm sorry to hear you've been burned by scammers! Any individual or organization fraudulently claiming to be a charity should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Failing that, they should be drawn and quartered, tarred and feathered, and run out of town on a rail!

Deeli! I didn't know more options had been added to the Hunger Site group! Thanks for the info. That's more incentive to get back to it. Big huggers!

justplainjo. Happily, I haven't been scammed; I have my favorite charities but can't give to all and some I refuse to donate to, the ones who are typically in the news for fraudulent use of donated funds. I think you are aware of which I am referring to. :(
