Locating a Lost Relative?

I have an older brother that I know very little about. All I know is that his first name is Alex, he's only a couple of years older than me (I'm 20, but I don't know his exact age). My dad is his father, but he's not on the birth certificate. I really want to find him, but I don't know where to look.

I assume that your father is not giving you information, or is deceased. Was your brother adopted? If so, maybe you could find the adoption agency and they can contact him and tell him he has a sibling who wants to meet him.

My father refuses to give me information. He was not adopted.

Have you tried searching using your dads last name in places such a facebook, ancestory.com? Do you know what town he would have been born in?

Some small towns publish birth announcements in the newspapers that you could probably find online

He does not have my father's last name. I'm not sure where he was born.

How do you know about this? Did he volunteer the info or did someone else spill the beans to you? It seems that your source was pretty incomplete and somewhat unwilling.

Seriously, if you want to find him, you're going to have to go rogue. Snoop thorugh your dad's stuff, if he has anything, like journals, old letters, etc. Anything related to the early -mid 90s.

HOund, bribe, and extort information out of any relative or friend of your dad's you might have. They need to at least know who the lady is, what her possible last name is, etc.

Keep on him about how important it is for you, etc. Do not let up.

Because without mroe info, you have really no choice save to hire a private investigator, whihc is probably expensive.

My dad told me the info but he won't tell me anything else. No matter how bad I want the info I don't think I could look through his stuff.

I'm just afraid that if I ask my relatives that they will tell my dad.

it sounds like your father has forbid you from asking questions about this person so what will he do if he finds you are still searching for information?
Will this cause a big problem with your relationship? Or are you willing to trade the desire of your father for your desire to find this brother? I'm only asking these questions because I believe you should know just how far you wish to take this and consider the consequences of your actions.

I do not believe we have enough information to really help as it appears the little info you have is almost useless. How did this subject ever come up? Who told you about a brother but would not give anymore information? If this was your father - why did he tell you anything?
I cannot help but ask - where is your mother in all of this? Does it appear that you and this brother have the same father and mother? Do you have any information on where your parents lived in their younger years or where they got married?
Considering that your father will not give any more information, why do you believe him about an adoption? Who would have raised the child?
Just too many questions.
You could post what info you have on Facebook and keep adding any information you acquire - and who knows - stranger things have happened.
