Log Bird Feeder

Log Bird Feeder
contest winner icon
My husband drills various sized holes into a white pine log for me and adds a simple hook so I can put my kitchen food scraps, fat cut from meat, and rolled in seeds or stale bread with peanut butter. I also make my own suet and freeze it in rolls which I insert into the various sized holes drilled around the log.

My newest addition to this is adding a 45 vinyl record through the top hook hardware to discourage any squirrels from climbing down to munch! A larger record would be even better!

If you love to watch or feed the birds, let me know!

I make my own suet also, I put the mixture in a cup cake tin, stick in my refrig until cold then I put them in a large zip lock bag, then I just take out one put it on one of my platform feeder and the birds go crazy over it, even the woodpeckers love it well its no wonder for I add dry fruit to my homemade suet.

Yes I love my backyard birds. :)

Many times I make my own version of suet: shortening, peant butter, seeds, nuts, dried fruit, oatmeal, etc. Then I hand mix it and roll them into logs of various thicknesses to fit into different sized holes we made. I freeze them until ready to use, then just stuff them into the wholes when needed!
