When mailing out books, save money on costly padded book mailers by cutting cardboard the size of the book, putting 2 pieces around the book and sticking a rubber band or two around it to hold it in place. Then either wrap your book with brown paper bags laying around the house or use a regular manilla envelope. If it's a very lightweight book that could be shipped First Class, do not use cardboard as it will add to the weight and thus the cost of postage. Use lightweight materials for those types of books, such as old bubble wrap or other recycled Styrofoam wrap.

Ask the Post Office for the discounted Book Rate to make mailing even cheaper.

When I post books which I sell on Amazon, I use bubble wrap for padding. Here in the UK it is expensive to buy bubble wrap, but you can pick it up for free in the fruit and veg section of many supermarkets.
