I still have two more half spheres of plastic cups which I previously turned into a chandelier. One is small and the other one is big so I got the idea of making another decoration which is a snowman. Click here to see how to assemble the drinking cups into a half sphere Making a Disposable Cup Christmas Chandelier.

Supplies:

  • plastic cups
  • hot glue
  • black cartolina or art paper
  • white art paper
  • scissors
  • white glue
  • red crepe paper

Steps:

  1. Using hot glue, stick the two half spheres into position. Place the small one on top of the big one.
  2. Support the big one with a piece of string so it won't fall as the glue is still hot and soft.
  3. Make the belt. Fold the black cartolina horizontally into about a 1 1/2 inch strip and cut. Next, cut a piece of white cardboard paper into a square and fold it twice. Cut a rectangular shape on the fold so it would create two rectangle holes.

  5. Insert the cut out cartolina into the two rectangle holes so it would look like a belt with a buckle.

  7. Stick it around the waist part of the snowman.

  9. Cut out a moon shape piece of cardboard and cover with crepe paper for the mouth. Now, roll the remaining piece of white cardboard paper into a cone and cover with crepe paper. Stick it in the middle of the small cups.
  10. Cut three big black circles and two small circles. Place the small ones onto the upper sides near the cones.

  12. Stick the three big circles above the belt in vertical alignment. This will be the buttons.
  13. Make a half top hat by cutting the cartolina into a rectangular form about 3x4 inches. Trace a bigger circle and cut it into two, one should be smaller than the other. Roll the rectangle and stick it into the small circle following its shape. Next stick the other end onto the bigger circle. Stick it into the snowman's head.
  14. Cut out a 1 1/2 inch strip of crepe paper and loop it around the neck.
  15. Here's your snowman.

My husband made this snowman for his holiday potluck at work. Everyone loved it.

It was much harder than a regular sparkleball, but still doable. We just used an old hat and scarf that we had around the house, but you could really decorate it up if you wanted to.

If you want to see our previous article about sparkleballs, click on the link below. They are so much more beautiful in person than the photos show.
